This work seeks to explore the question: How far can Chinese civilization go? The artist arranges the soles of Chinese shoes into the shape of Beijing Time, with the clock hands moving across these soles as time ticks away, second by second. Chinese civilization transitions from the past to the future, from a beginning toward an eventual end. The piece reflects on the notion that under the influence of boundless human desire, everything ultimately fades into emptiness — civilization being no exception. Are there truly eternal things in this world? How far can Chinese civilization endure? How can such a brilliant legacy be sustained? These are questions that deserve contemplation from each of us.
